Goal of the project

Identification of genes and polymorphic variants of genes responsible for the function and disorders of the brain and central nervous system (CNS) by experimental studies and bioinformatical reconstruction of gene networks of neurobiological processes.

Main objectives of the project

1.Bioinformatic reconstruction of gene networks of neurobiological systems associated with (a) thermal regulation and eating behavior, (b) features of social behavior, (c) the most widespread forms of neurodegeneration (Alzheimer’s disease), and (d) brain tumors (meningioma). 2.Assessment of the genetic variability of gene networks of neurobiological processes by genotyping of populations including the gene pool of the ancient Siberian population. Identification of new ethnogenetic factors involved in the formation of populational adaptation. 3.Detection of genes and gene network components influencing the formation of (a) aggressive; (b) tolerant, or friendly; and (3) depressive behavior by genomic analysis of original models: genetic stocks of laboratory (Rodents) and nonlaboratory (silver fox Vulpes vulpes) animals.. 4.Identification of new genetic and epigenetic factors affecting degenerative and oncological processes and detection of biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease and meningiomas.

Expected results

Identification of components of networks underlying neurobiological processes associated with (a) evolution of the brain and behavior regulation, (b) phenotypes relevant to fitness, and (c) common neurodegenerative and oncological brain disorders.
